WHAT IS COUNSELLING & HOW CAN IT HELP?
Counselling is a talking therapy which provides a person with a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to talk about any problems, thoughts or feelings they may be having.
Speaking aloud to another person and discussing thoughts and emotions helps to see them through a new perspective outside of the mind. Letting out and sharing the burden can be a cathartic experience as people tend to hold onto and bury their thoughts and feelings.
Counselling provides an opportunity to let go of these things while gaining more awareness and insight on ourselves.
It isn't always possible to make problems completely disappear however counselling can help to change one's outlook and create better habits and coping strategies.
Counselling is typically face to face however telephone and online sessions are also an option.
There a different types of counselling like CBT, Psychoanalysis, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt. Although there are different types, they all have the same goal of helping the client.
Anyone can benefit from counselling whether you're suffering from depression, anxiety, stress, bereavement, addiction, relationship issues, disability, health issues, or if you just need someone to talk to, counselling can help.
